ClayMeow Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Many of you have probably seen the video boasting the new content aware feature in Photoshop CS5, as posted by sdy284. Pretty awesome stuff, right? In theory, absolutely. In reality? Not so much. Adobe clearly chose images they knew would work well for their demonstration. Not a surprise...I figured there would be some touching up I'd have to do, but what I've discovered so far is rather sad. Remember when the guy was able to fill in a sky that "wasn't there" in the original image? Well this is what happened when I tried to extend two different images: BEFORE: AFTER: BEFORE: AFTER: Okay, at least it looks like the program made the effort to fill the space properly, but wtf was it "thinking" with the first image?! bp9801 Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Wow.. those are just sad. Its like it didn't even understand what you wanted to do. Instead of a palm and arm, its a copied face. Ah well, at least the other features are good right?
sdy284 Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 it's worked well for me. This is a panorama of 7 images, that photoshop compiled for me, obviously, some stuff is missing. before and after using content fill i mean, you tried filling in HUGE areas, with little to no patterns. it worked great for me :thumbsup2: and i'll happily supply you with my original images in case you think i just deleted portions of the original
ClayMeow Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Maybe it only works with landscapes, as that's all they showed too
sdy284 Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Maybe it only works with landscapes, as that's all they showed too there were videos using building architecture as well. It works best when there is a lot of "data" around it to use.
KK_ Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 ClayMeow i find its best using it with smaller things to fix up , it does work , but if its to large or with people in them it just messes it up
CowKing Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 ClayMeow, this isn't going to make a whole photo for you
jammin Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Like any tool in Photoshop, I think it is one that will take a bit of time to get used to and use most effectively. Even something that looks at a whole image can't put something there that isn't similar to what was there already. For the sky example in the demos you could still see where the content was coming from. With the images you are using you were asking it to put something there that in algorithmic terms (which is what this all is after all) is dissimilar to the rest of the image. It had a much better go at the second one because there was a bit more there to work with in terms of pattern.

The first one just amused me because I could have basically done the same thing by copy-n-pasting. lol
Psywar Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 I think Clay is upset because he was hoping it would re-render his photos of these girls nude for him.
