danieljury3 Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 Ive been asked to upgrade the computer that the rest of my family uses because it can be slow at times. Its running Vista and has a Intel Pentium E2160 dual core at 1.8Ghz, 1gb of DDR2 667 and a NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS video card. I was thinking that I should get more memory for it. What are everyone's thoughts about it? System_Information.html
premiumgfx Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 Hi Daniel, What does your family mainly use the computer for? Upgrading the memory will be a good way to help speed the PC up. What's your budget? (As 1x1GB of DDR2-667 can be around NZ$100 :/) PremiumGFX
danieljury3 Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 (edited) The main person that uses it would be my brother who plays runescape in internet explorer. My budget is around NZ$100. I was planing on getting 2x1Gb of DDR2 800 and just run it at a lower speed. I ran the windows experience index on it (probably not the best benchmark out there) and it gave the Graphics-Desktop performance for windows aero the lowest score and I can easily procure a decent video card for less than NZ$100. Andrewr05 Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 Optimize Vista first of all if you haven't. Secondly adding in another gigabyte of memory would be ideal as well as getting cheap used Core 2 Duo or even a Core 2 Quad.
