It's a shame AMD didn't place this on the AM3 socket, G34 boards are far and few between

 

Hopefully it will significantly increase their standings in the server market

No it's not a shame. The G34 has 1944 contacts, how would you fit this on a socket that has less than half this number of pins? Anyway it would not perform too well in gaming. Most games aren't able to exploit six threads properly, let alone twelve...

"Intel Pricing" is a bit of an overstatement.

 

That which you see in front of you, has "server pricing."

 

Because it was made for a server. Servers obviously don't have the same demands that your average work station or gaming computer does.
