xPETEZx Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 Hi All, As some of you may remeber my GTX 285 died last month. I sent it back to scan.co.uk, who have now told me they cant get a replacement. They have offered me an "upgrade", but I need to pay the difference between the "deprciated" value of my card. MandoPatriot Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 (edited) Depreciated value at 160? Lol. The cards on their website 240 to start off. Tell them that 160 is not acceptable, that you want the price the card is now. It should be less than when you paid for it, but if it isn't, oh well. That's how retail has ALWAYS worked. It is not your fault the card messed up on you, they shouldn't have sold a faulty product. Yes, they couldn't know, which is why you get the amount the card is valued at right now (how much they sell it for). MandoPatriot Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 Also, just to solidify my reasoning, they would switch out your card for another 285, but they don't have anymore. Which basically means you get the card price and you buy another card. That's how returns work. Seriously, do not listen to them about that bogus depreciated value crap. hierovision Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 What's wrong with the Vapor-X or Toxic 5850? If you want silence set it to stock clocks and turn the fan down. With 160 in credit you would end up spending about 80. Like TraptPatriot said, I would argue the matter of value. I would go even further than asking for retail and demand what I paid for it. krazypoloc Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 That sure does sound like a BS scenario. They should be offering you a replacement comparable to the cards performance if they can't provide a like for like one. Have you tried going to the manufacturer of the card? And also if you get a 5850 with the reference cooler design it is silent on idle and I couldn't hear it on load either. I had one in my rig for a week "testing it out" for a customer. I sit about 1.5 feet (0.4572 m) from my tower.

One could argue that, but it is a no win scenario. You will not get as much as you paid, because stuff does depreciate. I worked retail for 3+ years and we never did "what you paid" back. We would give the price of the item at that time. Because even other items lower in price. It would be like coming in and seeing that the card you bought a year ago is half the price, and asking for two since you paid the full amount. Just isn't going to happen.. That_Canadian Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 Also, just to solidify my reasoning, they would switch out your card for another 285, but they don't have anymore. You should get shelf price (in cash) for the replacement card. Thats the way its done. Dont let it happen any other way. xPETEZx Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 Got a day off Friday, so will call them then to argue my case. I already pointed out to them that the card is now selling for way more. They have offered my
sdy284 Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 honestly, go with the vanilla 5850. they run much cooler than their nvidia counter parts and (my 5870) is pretty quiet. After hours of playing BFBC2, i don't even notice a fan speed increase.
