loser12 Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 (edited) I have an old WD800 (Caviar 80gb IDE) and I can't get it to do anything. It just has some random MP23s and stuff, nothing sacred and so I wanted to mess around wit it. I removed the screws on the circuit side and the little green board came off. one of the small chips was obviously fried, but the rest of the board was fine. I am wondering if there is a way to get a replacement board or some other trick; assuming it didn't fry the information on the drive itself. Again the data isn't crucial, so if I lose it I won't cry. thanks! Edited April 27, 2010 by loser12
Nemo Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 You could find an identical drive with the exact same firmware version and scavenge the circuit board to use on the fried drive.

There are plenty of WD800 80Gb hard drives on ebay but it's a case of finding the right model with a good printed circuit board and whether the information is worth $20~$30 to you?
