thelusk Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 (edited) So I'm building a pc for someone at work, he gave me a budget of about $900. He says he wants a Blu-Ray Burner, which I don't get. Also he seems to think he needs 6GB of RAM and a TB of HDD space. I think his requests are a little unnecessary but I'm trying to be accommodating. I will not need to buy a case or peripherals. Here's what I'm looking at: CPU Intel i5 750 Motherboard MSI P55-GD55 RAM G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB Video Card MSI R5770 Hawk Radeon HD 5770 1GB PSU CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX HDD Western Digital Caviar Black WD1001FALS Burner LG WH10LS30K 10X Blu-ray Burner THis comes close to $1000, any suggestions as to how I could better the performance to price here? starchaser Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Get him a dx11 card if you can like 5770 if you can make it fit it the budget, trust me your coworker will thank you later. .

BizaroStormy Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Do you know what the main purpose of the build will be? Sounds like he wants a computer primarily for home theater.
sdy284 Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 why does he want a bluray burner? I'd drop that, get a regular dvd burner and upgrade to a 5850
joel.monteiro Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Is there any purpose to the blueray burner?
thelusk Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 From what I was told he wants to run video editing software and do some web browsing. As I can figure it, he plans on ripping/downloading video and burning it. I'm going to see if he'll drop the blu-ray though. Besides that and maybe a better GPU, does it look descent enough? thelusk Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 He asked specifically for an i7 but I don't think he did any research, just thought that's what he wanted. I figured the i5 750 was a good trade off to stick to his budget.
sdy284 Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 if you're near a microcenter then you can swing an i7 build for under a grand, otherwise i5 is as good as it gets
thelusk Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Yeah, I plan on getting the CPU at microcenter. The i7 930 is only $20 more but after you get a compatible board the price starts to go up a little.
