InCrYsIs Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 I have this card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814131352 I can't overclock this thing one bit. It starts acting funny and vantage will not run and games act funny. At stock it is flawless works perfect. I guess the question is there something wrong or did I get one of THOSE gpus that just won't do it.
joel.monteiro Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 (edited) if ur overclocking in CCC limits u should not face ne problems in games or ne kind of unstable behavior and once u go above the CCC limits using using 3rd party software, this is the problems u face.its the same with mine.overclock using CCC u should not face ne unstable behavior. wht are ur temps? http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/po...olor_5870/5.htm check this review. Temps are fine. I am using CCC to overclock but even the slightest move up an it flips out. Vantage and Unigine especially won't run at all and lock up. IVIYTH0S Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 Maybe flash a different bios onto it, that one may be shackled on the bios level (or in other words have certain limits put on how high it can't clock)
chrisdebx Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 CCC overclocked my 5870 to 990mhz which is to high... i downloaded msi afterburner ( great app to moniter/ overclock ur gpu ) and tuned the cypress gpu down a little then it worked great. with the ati CCC oc it crashed all the time... but u can basically on any 5870 get a 940mhz oc. my temps never go over
joel.monteiro Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 I was reading some of the reviews of the powercooler PCS+ 5870 and some ppl just cant overclock them, there seems to be some chips from powercolor that just dont overclock ,unlike asus

I don't have the same card but for me I could overclock as long as I didn't touch the memory, it seems like other people could hit 1300mhz on their memory but mine couldn't.
