Unlocking?

Recommended Posts

what? I think you need to reword that it dosnt really make sense, if you are talking about an Athlon xp [what one btw] you can still oc the FSB if its locked.

locked means that you cant change the multiplyer

and the power bit, u need to be more precise :withstupid:

sorry bout that neural....thx for all of ur replies even though my descriptions not enough

so if i didnt unlock my amd i cant increase the multiplier and it all depends on the ram i have?thx again

well.. to a certain extent it depends on your ram... if you have an unlocked amd you can change both the multi and fsb. mine is unlocked but my ram is ddr2100 (133mhz) so i have to lock it there and my fsb for the cpu is 166 (stock 2500 = 166x11)

to overclock my cpu i have to raise the multi because if i take the fsb up then my system turns to a pumpkin. It is best to keep the ram and cpu at 1:1, but like i said it depends only a certain extent on the ram. if you have an AMD2500+ barton, and you get ddr5000 ram, it would be a waste of money because the cpu wouldnt be able to get to the fsb speed of the ram... not that it cant be done...

the thing about unlocking is that you cant do it yourself anymore, NF2 chipsets auto-unlock older chips, but anything made after week 39 are locked, so if you got your cpu recently there is a slim to none chance that its unlocked.

to oc your cpu generally we up the fsb, many AMD guys get 3200 ram because its 400mhz, so you can set the fsb at 200mhz and your set; especially with a 2500, cuz takin it from 166x11 to 200x11 makes the comp think its a 3200+ instead of a 2500+

upping voltage is something that we do to make the system stable at higher clock speeds. dont do it unless its necessary, and be sure to check out the link above to the OCFAQ.

Hope this helps, good luck with what you got, seems like your system has potential!
