Kamikaze_Badger Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 Well, I've finally acquired a Windows XP Home disc and an external CD drive for my Aspire 1. I recently bought a used drive off of another member, and installed it (as I had thought my old one was corrupted). No luck. Booting off the CD, the set-up screen got as far as "Setup is starting Windows..." and then went to a BSOD shortly after. The BSOD said to check the hard drive and do a chkdsk, and gave some hex values. I'm pretty much at a loss for what to do now. A quick bit of Googling makes me think it may be a RAM issue, but I haven't messed with that at all. Any suggestions/advice?
oldfett Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 What is the drive set to in the BIOS? Sometimes it can be set to RAID, ACHI or legacy. I have a few Dell's at work that came in as legacy and we had to switch them over to ACHI for the installation to work.
Compxpert Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 (edited) You might have to get drivers from acer and slipstream them into a XP home install and then burn it useing nLite. I know I had to when I wanted to put XP on my laptop so I could use my deprecated VAG com and its software.
