Video capture from Handycam to PC

Hi all,

I have an Sony Digital Handycam that records to DV tape. I want to record digital copies of the tapes onto my PC.

I have the Sony ImageMixer software that came with the camera but it records jerky, small video and it doesn't have sound. It uses a USB connection.

Any input as to what hardware I need?

I know I'll need some kind of card that accepts Svideo and Rca jacks for the audio. Anything else?

How about software?

What will enable me to record the feed the camera sends?

Of course references to specific products would be helpful and the less expensive the better (but it must work).

I have the capability to hook the camera up to my receiver, but I am not sure how the receiver will allow the computer to see and record that feed as my comp has no input FROM the receiver only TO it and on to the TV.

I hope you understand what I am trying to explain ^_^

Thanks in advance

If the camera has a DV port you can just plug it in through firewire and just use windows movie maker or any other video editing software that can record from a DV firewire camera.
