ReMoose Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 I've been toying around with building a new rig for some time now. I keep questioning what would be a suitable upgrade for my existing rig. My questions are: Would a current phenom be a decent upgrade for me? Do you think the new 6 core Thuban processors will be worth waiting on, last I heard was April to June timeframe? Is triple channel DDR3 really worth the cost of an I7? Does anyone know if Thuban will support triple channel? I'm sure I'll have more questions. tkrow21 Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 What will you be using it as? HTPC? Gaming machine? Workstation? Daily use? Without this information it's really hard to give any legitimate suggestions. For example, if you were building a computer to game, you should head the Phenom II X4 route -- many games have yet to see decent multi-threading support, and six cores won't increase performance. Not to mention that an I7 wouldn't garner higher framerates as games are heavily GPU bound, so a Phenom II X4 would be the most cost effective and offer similar performance to other options. So, what do you want to do with your PC?

ReMoose Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 (edited) ignore this thread then. Was busy at work and had thoughts pop into mind. Thought I would put them on "paper" Edited April 1, 2010 by ReMoose
