Budget PC

Recommended Posts

I need to get a budget PC. The person doesn't do any gaming...it'll mostly be Internet use.

As such, I just need something fairly cheap that will be able to perform without issues, with fairly good speed.

Are there any pre-builts that you'd recommend?

Building budget machines usually don't save much money compared to pre-builts (certainly not as much as it does when it comes to high-end machines), and I just really don't feel like taking the time to build one. She has offered to pay me, but I don't feel like taking money for her. She can cook me dinner when I go over to set it up and copy her old files, and that'll be payment enough .

If you can really convince me that building a machine would be better, feel free to try.

Thanks.

Already has a laptop and wants a desktop for home. And I want to stick with a Core2Duo or i Series. Just because it's a budget build doesn't mean it has to use 5 yr old tech ;)

going to try and build this for my gf soon

I remember someone posting that on here awhile back. hmmm, I'll have to think about that. Doesn't save me from having to build it, but at least it saves me from having to shop for parts. lol. The real question will be...is that cheaper than just buying a Dell, HP, etc.

An Athlon II X2 and 785G motherboard would run about $150 add the extras about $350-400 for a decent build with integrated graphics would be easy.

check the newegg barebones systems...I have snagged a few out of there real cheap...

it is possible to build a whole system not including windows for 250.00...but it is AMD...not sure what an Intel one would be...I think a little more

If it is just going to be a net surfer you can go cheaper yet..I built a Socket 754 net surfer for my shop and I use it as a media center for the music patched into the shop stereo...

this is what I used...

You may be able to find this model new for around $390.00 if not less. At the local Best Buy store.

And if its out of stock at BB, you can get it from Staples too

Thanks...maybe I'll send her there :). I like that those have a dedicated GPU. Even though it's crap, I still prefer dedicated cards over integrated crap.
