Linksys WRT-120N problems

I'm having problems with my router. Like the topic says it is a WRT-120N by linksys. It says it can do Wireless N speeds but I'm only getting G speeds. Now my webpages are loading really slow.

I have scoured linksys forums, but have not found an answer to my problem. I need some help.

I have a bunch of these routers and do not have any issues. I am guessing you have a wireless N adapter or something? I have you tried setting the router to N only and see if it locks in?

I did upgrade. But I think that is problem. I looked through the forums on linksys site and apparently other people have had the same problem. I have also just tried setting it to just N, but all i get is windows cannot connect.

I was thinking about giving dd-wrt a try, but I have looked through the supported router database and they it is not supported. Apparently there are a lot problems with the firmware I installed.

Well I don't think I can install DD-WRT on this router. Based upon what I have read it won't work. The WRT120n is atheros based and to install DD-WRT on a router with an atheros chipset would require at least 4mb of flash memory for the firmware. The WRT120n only has 2mb.

  • 8 months later...

The WRT120N is not a real "N" Router.

I just picked this router up yesterday because I screwed up my WRT54G2.

When I got it home I was displeased to find out.

(On the box)

Complies with IEEE 802.3u, 802.11g, and 802.11b standards and is compatible with *some* 802.11n features.

It's only a single stream router. It is also only Certified for 802.11b/g.

While it will connect to "N" devices you will not see "N" speeds.

If I paid more then 40 bucks for this router I would have been very ticked off..

And no.. DD-WRT has no Firmware for this Router yet.. I spent all day looking.

I could not even find Tomato Firmware.

My Suggestion to you since your having issues with it is to just take it back and buy something nicer.
