Phil527 Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 (edited) This is a very budget beginner overclocking rig. I was wondering if anyone can recommend any AM2/AM2+ motherboards that supports ATI crossfire. Only hi-end part in this rig is the ATI Radeon 5970 video card. panjang110 Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 why AM2+? AM3 board is quite cheap these days and DDR3 price is around the same price of DDR2..

Scott P Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 Why go for a 5970 (or two in the case of Crossfire), then go with a cheap older socket motherboard? It doesn't make sense.
Scottike Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 You might take a look at this: MSI K9A2-CF v.2 It's fairly cheap at $69.00, but a bit outdated. 790X NB with a 600 SB, and crossfire support (2x8). OC's well, but with the 600 you won't get the ACC function offered with boards that have the 750 SB, or the 785. so you can't unlock cores. But if your just learning to OC, It's good to learn the basics on. The bios has a multitude of OC features, the board uses DDR2 memory, and uses AM2/AM2+ processors. if you want to take the risk, you might find an open box unit at the Egg at a better price. sack_patrol Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 As the others have said, go with AM3, price is very good for what you get. A lot more options and support. Though if u still want am2 - DFI m2rs
