OCit Posted January 13, 2004 Posted January 13, 2004 I laready posted this in help but i really need help. Ok so, as some of u may know, reinstalled a water cooling kit and am finally getting good temps but now i cant overclock! What happened was whenever i booted up the comp it would recongnize that a Intel 2.8 was found. Then it would say "An unworkable or different cpu has been found, F1 to continue or Del to enter bios". This has happened to me one time b4 but it went away, now its not going away. I went in to the bios and loaded the optimized defaults. Then i rebooted and same msg. Just to see i tried to oc it by 50 mhz, just to see if the mobo was being fumb, but the oc didnt show up in any program! So i tried reseting the CMOS and then i got an erro "CMOS checksum error - defaults loaded", then i rebooted and then got the first msg again. What should i do! Plz help! Thanks Ted
keto Posted January 13, 2004 Posted January 13, 2004 This is admittedly a shot in the dark. If you have the block screwed down too tightly, it can cause problems with the socket losing connection or you could have grounded one of the block screws to the mobo, causing a short? Eva_Unit_0 Posted January 13, 2004 Posted January 13, 2004 Yeah, since It coincides with your reinstalling of the waterblock I would reseat the water block, or maybe even test it out with your old air cooler just to see if it works. ShadowPaktu Posted January 13, 2004 Posted January 13, 2004 the bios error sounded like a failed cmos battery to me, try replacing the battery to see if it works.
OCit Posted January 13, 2004 Posted January 13, 2004 Ok ill try reseting the block. But how do i replace the CMOS battery? Thanks so so so so much guys Ted
Nuclear Posted January 13, 2004 Posted January 13, 2004 Check the CPU for broken or bent pins. A broken pin would cause the CPU to act funny, and it's very possible if your not careful. You said earlier that you had the latest BIOS installed. Did you do it with the flashmenu program, or with a bootable floppy? Sometimes the flashmenu causes serious problems when updating the BIOS. I think you've a BIOS corruption and need to reload your BIOS. I would revert back to a one I knew was working fine.
Eva_Unit_0 Posted January 13, 2004 Posted January 13, 2004 To replace the cmos battery, you just take the little silver lithium battery out of the mobo, go to radioshack and get a new one, and pop the new one in. It's at least worth a try.
OCit Posted January 13, 2004 Posted January 13, 2004 Ya ive had bent pins b4 but nope i dont think, gonna try resetting in an hour hope that will fix everything. Pppplllzzz. lol. And i dont think the bios is the prob because it saves the bios, it just doesnt put it into effect. And i tried reverting back but no luck, thanks, and yes i used flash menu.
