GodlyManDude540 Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 She has one but now she wants a desktop I edited my other post with something I came up with
caffeinejunkie Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 If she only watches movies and surfs then theres no need for 4gb of memory. Id go for 2gbs and then use that extra money for a better power supply. I have never had goodluck with a psu that came with a case. GodlyManDude540 Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 ok thx for the advice
paulktreg Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 Your original choice of the GA-MA785GM-US2H motherboard as integrated ATI Radeon HD4200 graphics that will be more than capable of surfing and DVD playback. That will save even more money to put towards a decent power supply. Cheers Paul
uberamdguy Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 you could def build her a rig for around 300 and serve her purposes just as well also the athlon II x2 240 is a great cpu maybe not the most powerful but price/performance ratio cannot be beat
CardsFan88 Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 20 inches to watch movies? Probably a bit small.
Scott P Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 Based on her needs, you could do pretty well for $500. I'd look for an Athlon II X2 240 or X3 435 CPU, a 785G motherboard, 4 GB of RAM (either DDR2 or DDR3 based on the board) and a small hard drive. Get a good looking case (even show her some options to pick from) and a solid quiet PSU. Add a 22" HD monitor (if her space allows it), a some good looking 2.1 speakers and an economical but quality keyboard and mouse. You could probably find some good deals here in the classifieds for some of the components to lower the total cost.
