Driver Conflict?

Hey guys, I'm new here and hopefully i can get some help,

Okay...

- Intel P4 Intel 1.7ghz -

- Shuttle AV49VN mobo with P4X400 Chipset -

- Dane-Elec Elixer, 2.5 Cas Latency, 512MB 2700 DDR (1 stick) -

- Asus TI4800 SE Video -

- My computer was acting up doing certain things, i would leave it on overnight and in the morning i would be at the windows log on screen, When l would log in it would say that the Video encountered a serious error... I thought okay, driver, Uninstalled and reinstalled driver, Same thing.

I finally decided to format and start over, so i did so, Right off the bat i was encountering problems with several things, computer locking up, system not booting to windows, so i reset bios (it was OC'ed to 2.0ghz, and memory wasn't set to speed, it was in manual and i think the settings were wrecked). My system likes to crash on the new winamp 5.0, and will not open creative AudioHQ, so i believe thats audio driver. Regardless my system doesn't like me  .

My drivers on video are the new 53.03's and via 4.51 4in1's... I've having a hard time figuring this one out... Any help would be greatly appreciated!

::UPDATE::

- I was compressing some files for a friend, the compress finished out, Computer crashed, When it booted back up, it loads the profile information but explorer doesn't load, I think its going to be something with my OS rather than drivers, But still opinion would be appreciated, thanks!

I know this may sound like a stupid and easy answer to a complex problem, but it sounds like you are having too many problems to make any of what you are doing worth while. Formatting might just be the best solution, you could spend hours trying to fix something only to have it or something else go wrong soon after. There is no guess work with a fresh install of everything and like I said, you will spend more time fixing it then just formatting and starting over.

If the OS is crapping anyway, you might only have that option besides a recovery, but it only seems like that slows everything down afterwards. Just my 2 cents.

Yea I done a recovery on XP Pro Sunday I think it was and it was nothing but problems and slow like you say, I would set everything to default setting and format, install and start over, that is what I did, do a slow or low level format not a quick one and get all the newest updated drivers for everything you have, M.B. chipset, video card, modem, sound, etc. you are less likely to have any conflicts with the newest drivers

Here is what you do to stop things of this sort from happening in the first place:

1. Create a batch file that, first, deletes all temporary files from the windows folder, then copies the Windows folder to another folder "Mine goes to C:\x :P"

2. Create another batch file that: Renames the windows folder to something like "badwin", then rename the backup of windows windows effectively restoring windows to working settings.

3. Before installing anything, run the first batch.

4. If problems arise run the second batch. (Only if the problem is in Windows.)

Also just for good measure, I would check out CPU temps, and whatnot to make sure that you are not gettin too warm. Also didn't you say in your first post that you had formatted and reinstalled? Another thing I would check would be to see if the HDD has any bad sectors on it. HDDs can cause almost any kind of problem. Including reboots, hangs, etc.

My temps are actually not bad, i'm was running 35-40 degrees OC to 2.0 ghz (300 mhz) - I reset the ram settings because video demanding programs were locking up and it would reboot giving me that the video driers have crashed, anyway, i soon came to the conclusion to reset all bios, so i did, But currently i am getting the blue screen of death, When i load things with video (3dmark01) it gives me the file named for video drivers, when i do task manager it gives a different system file, etc... I think i need another reformat- But i will check my disk for sectors. Thanks again, you guys are awesome

:UPDATED:

I think its the memory for sure, i am formatting now, if im still getting these blue screens i will try a 256mb of my friends OCZ and see whats up, I got some really crappy ram in there right now, i would definitly not doubt it being ram at this point.

:UPDATE #2:

Someone i was talking to was saying they had the same problem, and it probally most likely is going to be end up being driver conflict , So i am going to try some things, I am going to run the system with absolutely no drivers, If it crashes, I know its memory, It it runs stable, and i install drivers, Its an obvious problem (drivers), I think i got this... Atleast i hope, I just dont have time to do anything...

: FINAL UPDATE! :

RESOLVED! About time, I formatted, Reinstalled windows, Right off i get an explorer error, So i think its got to be a ram problem, I take out my ram, Try my friends memory (OCZ) and it still crashes, So i take out his ram, put mine back in, try a different DDR bus, and it works! that port must short out or something but it worked!, i was like crap all that trouble for nothing... anyway, Thanks for all the input you guys have given me, My computer is back up and running perfect now, all my programs are back... everything is back, HOW IT SHOULD BE! :D
