luffy Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 (edited) Question for ram. Can you you tell me what is the diff between Memory and SPD In the CPU-Z shows: Memory Timings: 2.5-2-2-5-7 SPD Timings: 2.5-3-3-8 If I overclock the ram which ones should I follow? Memory or SPD? I'm working on finding the max of my ram. The sticker on the ram wrote: VS512MB400C3 here. The problem is CPU-Z shows SPD Timings: 2.5-3-3-8 which is VS512MB400. There is another problem, I can find anywhere on the web about Memory Timings: 2.5-2-2-5-7? I really don't know what chips are on my sticks of ram . caffeinejunkie Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 SPD is pretty much just instructions so your computer knows what timings to use with your memory when running stock. The other timings would be what you're actually running. It is odd that it isnt running at the SPD timings but shouldn't be a big issue. There are programs that would let you reprogram the SPD to what it should be but I really wouldn't worry about it. As for what to follow Id go with the SPD because it's looser and should let you get some more speed out of them. Just remember that the ram is value select so I wouldn't expect too much out of it. luffy Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 (edited) Do you know what type of ram chips I have? TCCD, BH5,BH6,VX or UTT? And how to find out? Many links from the guide was dead. I just found something new in my BIOS: Is it a LDT/FSB Frequency Ratio (LDT Multi) or cpu multiplier? I just found something new in my BIOS: Is it a LDT/FSB Frequency Ratio (LDT Multi) or cpu multiplier? That would be for the LDT. As for what type of chips google will be your best friend for that. Youd be better off getting the writing off the chips themselves then with the model numbers.
00stevo Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 I did a quick google for you and im convinced the ram you have is DDR-400 (pc-3200) CL3.So thats DDR1 chips you want, but tbh, they are very pricey nowadays.Youd be better off getting a new mobo and a cheap set of DDR2.
