you can also make one yourself from refrigerator parts. see pics below. http://www.techreaction.net/forums/showthread.php?t=84

^ next time when you post try to at least answer one of his questions.

-

$400-700 for pre-builts units online.

i wouldnt build yourself one for the first time. get a used/broken one, take it apart and re-assemble it and see what it involves completely and if your up to it. if your not and it leaks.. not fun

the only real downside is the the fact that subzero temps make dangerous condensation that if you don't control, is going to wreck some bad havoc

Phase change aren't needed for anything but extreme cooling.

poeple like road-runner can be lots of help, he has a cascade, and im not sure but i wouldn't doubt about kitfit either

Unless you already have a license or know someone, freon can be tough to get. I had one built there are a few builders at XS...

Crap, so I'm guessing a phase cooler is not the way to go for 24/7, lol.

Some people do, myself I like it quiet when I sit down with my main rig. I like to watch TV at the same time and not have to worry about anything and be able to hear it. I think its best to have a bench rig, then a regular main rig. Theres an old saying I like, dont race your ride car and dont ride your race car...

wow RR thats a nice unit! they do have some that are not so expensive likt the ocz one if you can find them but they are not that good in terms of sub zero cooling for everyday cooling air or water is the way to go phase/cascade is more for benching. and if you must go subzero everyday there are cheaper ways like TEC/pelletier cooling but they are getting harder and harder to find and only keep core2duos below 0c at idle if your lucky. again i suggest water

I have been looking @ Phase for the past few weeks/mths and i found that it wouldnt benefit me at all. I have got the same results from chilled water (only due to the limitations of my CPU).

There is a US company thats taking the OCZ budget cooler and making it work :) they take it from 130W to over 200W. I have spoken to them they say it will run an i7 @4.4 24/7 but from what i hav seen thats not going to happen. think it will die with the condensation within 10 hours.

I am no expert infact a real nood but just going from what i have read and what ppl have said . as they say a "script jockey" :)

I wouldn't be comfortable with a Tower sized unit and a huge tube coming out of it, going into my PC for every day use. I'm not a fan of water cooling but I'd also have to say that thats the way to go if u want 24/7 + practical. As for phase change...I don't know much about those but I would guess that with a good fridge you could make yourself one that would be just as good if not better that one you'd buy from a store...if you know what your doing that is. I'm still having trouble finding a store to buy some freakin zip ties so I don't even think of getting involved with phase change.
