painting a 932 HAF inside

Recommended Posts

Why don't you just take the case to have it powder coated? A buddy of mine had this Haf case powdercoated matted black at a specialist. I think they charged him like $110.

Having it powder coated is way more durable than spray paint. Plus the results will look way more professional.

I know this is a little late, but I just painted the inside of my 932. I used two cans of Krylon Fusion spray paint. It's the stuff that doesn't require primer. I stripped the case down to metal, taped off the outside parts, and put two good coats on everything (psu tray, inside case, inside of both panels). The satin black color matches the outside paint almost perfectly. The whole process (including 30 minutes between coats) took about 5 hours. For a paint booth I taped an old white sheet to the fence on my patio, pushed my patio table against the fence, and pulled the sheet over it. After an hour of dry time it was pretty much dry, but the can says to give it 24 hours to fully dry and a week to completely cure. I started assembleing my computer again after an hour, and so far the only issue I've had was not scratching the paint while re-installing the drive bay clips. I used some of my girlfirends black nail polish to fix the scratches, and you can't even tell unless you get right in front of it. As soon as it's back together I'll post pictures. Total cost was under 10$ for paint. I would say a third can for a third coat isn't a bad idea.

Fusion is marketed for plastic, but it also works on wood, metal, and just about anything else. Says so on the can. As an update to painting my case (pics soon, waiting on watercooling parts to be delivered), after letting the paint cure for a day it was good to go. It looks good, and is holing up well. I don't think a third coat would have killed me, but I'm glad I didn't, as my 5.5" drives and hard drive trays were a little snug going in.
