good malware/spyware protection?

How does Windows Defender stack up as a spyware removal tool? Please include details or evidence to support your arguments (not just 'Windows/Microsoft sucks...'). Thanks!

 

I use it because it's free, because you can schedule automatic updates and automatic scans. It doesn't seem to suffer from reporting false positives like S&D does, but neither does Malwarebytes. Is Defender better than third party apps? I'd probably say NO. But is it better than nothing at all and being able to "set it and forget it"? I'd say yes.
