crazyman62 Posted November 20, 2009 I have 2 500Gb Hatachi Deskstars and i have it in Raid 0 with a MSI K9N NEO V3 and it was running OK (normal Speed as a Single HDD but when i switched cases, it is running at about 10 - 15MB/S this is really bad for perfomance it takes forever to load a level in FEAR 2... this is really annoying. please Help
Fight Game Posted November 20, 2009 does hitachi have a disk checking program you can download? Try chkdsk and defrag. If you only switched cases and nothing else, this should not have changed the performance. Maybe bad cable(s)? Try a different port?
crazyman62 Posted November 21, 2009 i have done checkdisk and defrag with 3 different programs and i have replaced the cables, aswell as all of the ports
rivalary Posted November 21, 2009 Integrated RAID on mainboards are usually pretty bad. I'm no expert at it, but I'm guessing that you need a RAID card.

Double-check everything and make sure the cables are tight.
Fight Game Posted November 21, 2009 (edited) the worst integrated raid controller can do better than 10-15mb, and the op said it had changed, so there's clearly something wrong. whats your processor % during the benchmark Edited November 21, 2009 by Fight Game
crazyman62 Posted November 21, 2009 the worst integrated raid controller can do better than 10-15mb, and the op said it had changed, so there's clearly something wrong. whats your processor % during the benchmark the CPU %age is usually around 30-50% when trying to transfer media, this also effet my sever that i am running with the same comp
Fight Game Posted November 21, 2009 (edited) see what the cpu is actually doing in task manager during the transfer to see if something else is going on. hitachi's website has a "Drive Fitness Test" http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm#DFT. Make sure your drive is supported (not sure exactl;y what your model # is)- it says Ultrastar 10K300, Ultrastar 15K73 and DK32XX users, do not use DFT — Use the OGT Diagnostic Tool here - http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm#OGT OGT Diagnostic Tool is a failure analysis tool for Ultrastar 10K300, Ultrastar 15K73 and DK32xx disk drives. For these drives, OGT Diagnostic Tool replaces the Drive Fitness Test. Hopefully they aren't damaged, but if they are, are they under warranty? crazyman62 Posted December 7, 2009 Yeah, there under warranty, ill take a look, and keep you posted. everything is OK i have updated my Raid drivers. and now it is running @ about 60MB/Sec, but i know they can go faster.
Waco Posted December 7, 2009 everything is OKi have updated my Raid drivers. and now it is running @ about 60MB/Sec, but i know they can go faster. 60 MB/s is about right for those drives. I have the 250 GB versions and they aren't speed demons.
hardnrg Posted December 8, 2009 There's more than one Hitachi Deskstar 250GB (e.g. T7k250, T7k500)... I know because I have 8 Hitachi Deskstar 250GBs lol... the newer T7K500 is a bit faster than the T7K250 and 7K250 series Run HD Tach and post up a screenshot of the resulting graph... iirc, my Hitachi drives do about 65-40MB/s sustained each, and 2 drive RAID-0 is pretty much double that, onboard or otherwise Also, running defrag (possibly 3rd party like O&O), setting up fixed pagefile on separate drive, etc can improve drive speed...
