littlepobs Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 Hi, just about to build a new system. It's been about 4 years now so im all excited again. Just wondering would THIS be okay with... i7 920 Corsair 6GB XMS3 DDR3 PC3-12800 Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R Intel X58 antec 900 case with a 9600gt (i know its bad) which i was hoping to updgrade to sometime soon, maybe gtx 260 Or am i stupid and would be better with about 750w and be done with it. I already feel a little silly for even thinking about spending so much but its been a while so what the hell. Thanks for anyhelp guys.. GabrielT Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 If you are thinking about upgrading your GPU soon I would recomend something a big more powerful just to be safe.
Water_Hazard Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 (edited) I have that exact power supply you are looking at. It has been great so far. Had it for about 6 months running an [email protected] and a [email protected] folding non stop powersupply doesnt even get warm. If you are planning to overclock that i7 I would get something a little more powerful though. With a 260 it might just be a little to much. They make that same ps in a 600w model. could be just what you need http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/overcl...i7,2268-10.html http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct....rodid=CA-031-OC Edited November 9, 2009 by Water_Hazard
road-runner Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 For my i7 crunchers that just have a cheap 6200 video card I use the corsair 400 watt single rail 30 amp, works fine. Right now there $29.99 after rebate... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16817139008
paulktreg Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 A good quality power supply like the OCZ 500W will be enough even for a GTX260, can't see that system pulling more than 350W at full tilt. Jump to a 600 or 750W power supply next time around especially if you are considering upgrading the GTX260. Cheers Paul
littlepobs Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 Thanks guys, sounds like i can live with it for now, but if i was going to overclock the i7 920 would i need the extra power or would i still be okay with this for now??? nns Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 It will be fine with the current video card... GTX260 might be an issue but not much, I guess...
