nugga Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 hello my intel stock cooler wont fit. Only 2 out of the 4 pins do fit, and it is the same 2 pins who wont fit. I tried to turn the cooler around, but it do still not fit. Any one have an idea why this happens? I'm sure this have somthing to do with the pins, and not with me. But they are not broken. Bosco Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 What do you mean they don't fit? Is the cooler brand new? Are they in the unlock position?
nugga Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 What do you mean they don't fit? Is the cooler brand new? Are they in the unlock position? well sorry for the fast information, i did only have a few minutes to wirte it. Well i found out that the intel stock cooler lga 1366 was sitting wrong. so i took it off, and now it wont fit any more. Two of the pins is impossible to get in the holes. So what to do. Flibo Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 What motherboard are you trying to fit it in? Have you read the manual(s)? I haven't had good experiences with Intel's stock coolers either, I had to push it there with quite a bit of force.

Waco Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 You either bent the cooler (unlikely) or you simply have it 90 degrees off.
jlqrb Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 You either bent the cooler (unlikely) or you simply have it 90 degrees off. I agree with the 90 degrees off. Welli found out that the intel stock cooler lga 1366 was sitting wrong. so i took it off, and now it wont fit any more. Two of the pins is impossible to get in the holes. So what to do. What was the issue with the first installation that caused it to sit wrong ?
Zertz Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 You either bent the cooler (unlikely) or you simply have it 90 degrees off. LGA775/1156/1366 heatsinks are square so orientation doesn't matter If the pins don't line up with the holes, than you have the wrong heatsink (processor?) for your motherboard, or vice versa. If they do line up, but they're just tight, make sure the pins are in unlocked position (opposite direction of the arrow on top of the pin). Then, without pushing them down, make sure every pin is sitting in a hole and then insert them in a "X": 1___3 4___2
Bosco Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 Sounds like the pins are either not unlocked or they are bent and can't fit through the hole. If you took it off then it will go back on.
Zertz Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 they are bent and can't fit through the hole. This ^ Sometimes the 2 little pieces of plastic that lock under the board get bent, especially when you have to fight with them..
