Jump4h Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 (edited) Here's a small poll. Coming from windows xp, I never got used to the Windows 7 UAC. Disabled it right away. What do you think of it; I never had any viruses in XP, why should I in 7? EDIT: Vote if you use Vista too Edited November 3, 2009 by Jump4h
Crazy_Nate Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 I have it disabled for Vista, but I didn't bother in 7 (RC build 7100). I believe there are options to let you set how sensitive it is to what you do.
ClayMeow Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 Disabled on my Vista64 and Vista32 systems. Don't use Win7.
Kash Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 Turned it off. I think I'm better at determining the effects of my actions than a heavy handed OS.
Crazy_Nate Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 While I do think it's a pain, I can sorta see where they're going with it. Similar to a linux operating systems superuser / root, I think it can be beneficial. With that said, I mainly set things up and leave it alone - I haven't had to deal with these popups on a regular basis. It annoys about the same level as XP asking if I want to install a program, or firefox asking me if I trust the download. If I didn't, I wouldn't have downloaded it My mouse is usually poised in anticipation - however seldom it may be. I see arguments for either side, but, I don't really find it that annoying, if turned down. For reference, I've also tweaked a lot in the past. If you've ever had someone borrow your computer and install programs without your knowing, doing things like making the windows installer processes manual is useful. The same thing could be eliminated in linux altogether, since I wouldn't give out the root password...

I get the feeling saying No would cause a 'my computer is broken!' tech support call.
Phil Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 Post Xp I can't believe the amount of crap MS has added to Viata and 7 just to keep people from getting under the hood of their own computer. <_< XP was bad enough.
fire_storm Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 I keep it on. I've gotten use to it over the past few years so it doesn't really bother me anymore although with the default setting in W7 it doesn't even come up as often anymore. Yeah, I don't know if I made this clear when I posted above. Windows 7 is less obnoxious. While I had Vista's UAC disabled within the first 15 minutes of installing, I haven't had any qualms about it on Windows 7... GabrielT Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 Disabled, I can't stand those little pop ups.
JBags Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 Disabled. When i first got Vista, those UAC popups annoyed the stools out of me... and then i learned that they can be disabled. and I've had it disabled ever since. i do the same for win7, even though UAC is nowhere near as annoying. i feel that i don't need windows looking over my shoulder all the time, I haven't had a virus since my early teenage hentai obsession (i'm 21 now btw). and to nail that fact home, I also don't use an antivirus.
