pra5286 Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 (edited) Right guys, first of all i'd like to say im new here so ya'know, go easy on the newbie. i've been looking around for parts for my brand new build an d i've decided that the highest spec graphics card i'd be comfortable putting into my machine without feeling that it was almighty overkill and a huge expense for a machine that i may end up disregarding due to college. Anyways my main concern is this, I have been wondering for absolutely ages now whether i should go ahead and purchse the ASUS HD4890 ( with the TOP cooler ) http://www.ebuyer.com/product/161725 or whether i should purchase the ASUS GTX 275 http://www.ebuyer.com/product/161702 .The price difference is nominal, with it only being Edited October 29, 2009 by pra5286
Fight Game Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 (edited) I'd take the 275 over the 4890. In a few benchmarks they are about even, but the 275 pulls ahead in several others. Plus the 275 will be able to handle games better that use physics, plus if you ever decide to fold@home, it will be alot better. Does that budget need to include a moniter, keyboard, mouse,...or what? Edited October 29, 2009 by Fight Game

I think i will go ahead and buy the GTX275. Running it on a 22" LCD. I'm struggling to find RAM at reasonable prices ( thanks to a sudden decision by every major producer to "whack" up their prices... Zertz Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 yeah I 2nd the 275, you can't go wrong at 2 dollars more lol. however....looky here : http://www.ebuyer.com/product/175978 I'm honestly not up to date on this matter, but aren't the 4890/GTX275 quite a bit faster than the 5770? Not to the fiddler with voltage control , I heard the 5770s OC like madmen (or madwomen?) when the some extra juice is fed. But you're right, stock to stock the 4890/275 have a small edge I often wonder how much more efficient the 5770 still is after the voltage bump though, since that's one of my favorite perks. I love it's normal size and power efficiency. (the 5750 is still the cutest little bugger around) Edited October 30, 2009 by IVIYTH0S
