Jump4h Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 I do agree on the precarious wording of the OP A bit off topic, but what the heck does OP stand for? always wondered that
Crazy_Nate Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 A bit off topic, but what the heck does OP stand for? always wondered that AFAIK (hehe - as far as I know), OP is Original Post/Poster

Zertz Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 I've been using Microsoft Security Essentials for a week or two and it seems to work fine. It's lightweight and fast unlike a lot of AV software
Francis32 Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 (edited) Perhaps one of the most difficult problems that the peoples deal with is effective viruses that harms the hard disk, CPU, processor of a system an can even slow down the speed of the system. There are many antivirus which helps to protect your PC from bad sectors, but the price ranges are really high and a normal person can’t afford it. So, while surfing on internet I came through a site which have lots and lots of antivirus at low cost. The site is [spam link removed] and it contains many antiviruses which will protect your PC from any kind of virus. MasterRex862 Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 Use AVG, it's free and better than any of the paid alternatives If you're a software engineer then surely you're comfortable with backing up your data, reformatting your hdd and installing the OS of your choice - no? Using anti-virus software is like using an e-condom. It can help sometimes, but it's not going to protect you from AIDS. You might as well enjoy the experience while you can! ekiM Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 Not that I'm suspicious *cough*, but has a mod compared the IP of users Richard1 and Francis32?
Verran Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 Not that I'm suspicious *cough*, but has a mod compared the IP of users Richard1 and Francis32? Sure enough. Thanks for the heads-up. I'll leave the thread here though since a good AV discussion never hurt anyone. Personally, I use Clamwin. I used Norton until it got too bulky, then I switched to AVG. I used that for quite a while but around version 8 it got way too bulky too, so now I use Clamwin. It may not be the end-all, be-all of AV, but it's super light-weight and I feel it's more than enough to protect me when paired with a little bit of common sense surfing. sack_patrol Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 I downloaded NOD32 4 from a torrent, and when my license runs out I get a new one from a website. So basically it's free, and you aren't violating anything by using the ID's provided as it is not your fault for exploiting something...it's the posters fault (i know that there are ppl that don't like using pirate stuff so thats why I explained). Same goes for games and everything else on the net...it's all legal...even if it isn't...again - not the users fault...it's the uploader's fault. Best thing to do is to not use any antivirus/firewall. Makes ur PC faster...it's a really long story why exactly...I've got nod32 cuz of my mom but might remove if since she uses only the laptop, and I'm competent enough as to not stumble upon viruses and w/e else.
