From a 4670 to GTS 250......

Would there be a huge performance increase from a ATi 4670 to a Nvidia GTS 250. I was thinking about getting either sparkle, pny, or ASUS, and i think the other was bfg. this is for a pretty old comp (SKT 754) im trying to upgrade that i just saw lying around, so i just decided to "might as well use it and upgrade it" cuz i was bored after being side tracked from my new current monster builds.

Im thinking of getting ones with the case not covering the whole card, as the old motherboard has a capacitor blocking the way, and the HIS 4670 fits perfect. The sparkle and ASUS looks like it wiould fit perfect. Im thinking about getting sparkle GTS250....im leaning that way. AN please, dont tell me to get another card, the highest ill go is something that is as great as gts 250, or better in performance and same price or less. Now i tested ut3 on all high settings on the comp, getting an average of 40 fps in deathmatch, 30 fps in warfare, capture the flag and so on. Heres the system now:Bare with me, its old...i have alot of time on my hands....

CPU: Athlon 64 3200+ OC at 2.4ghz (SKT 754)

GPU: HIS 4670 1b DDR3 OC (128 bit interface, damnit, i need more bandwidth! to actually use the 1850 mhz mem clock)

MEM: 1.5gb ddr pc3200 (old, i know, oc to 220mhz)

PSU: 450 Watt Nameless PSU (idk, came with one of my barebone kits....)

Now would i atleast see a 10-15 fps in crease if i got this:

CPU:Athlon64 3700 SanDiego MObile 2.4ghz 1 mb Cache(OC hopefully to 2.7ghz)(SKT 754,yes,the mobiles do work on desktops,i've worked with them before)

or

CPU:Athlon 64 3400+ Venice 2.4ghz, hopefully overclocks to 2.6ghz or above (512 mb cache)

GPU:Sparkle GeFOrce GTS 250 1gb

MEM:2 gb Corsair pc3200

AUDIOCARD:Some sound card.......Audigy maybe...so it takes away stress from cpu in onboard sound

PSU: OCZ ModXStream Pro Power Supply 600 Watts (hopefully thats enough)

....and get some case fans.....and a better cpu heatsink.

So, would i ateast see a 50% increase in speed, so if frames are 30, they should be 45....but it looks like it may even be more.....with this setup. give me your thoughts....then i give you mine........or i just might throw out the old thing, or sell it.

trust me, those wont, fit, i need an opened like card like the sparkle gts 250, unlesss there are 5750's or 5850's like taht, to be honest i never liekd ati, but if it is good...ill get it

the 4850 is admittedly long but looky here, the 5750 is REALLY small.

the 250 GTS is a little longer than it (and consumes more power)GTS250-45.JPG

check some reviews out on it and see what you think.

Id go for a 1gig 4850 as they are much cheaper than a gts250 and provide the same if not better performance.ATI's drivers are pretty much fine now imo,so dont let fanboys hold you back.

i just have to laugh, the picture above showing the 5870, that is no 5870, thats the crappy 5750, even though its supposed to perform like the 4850...it doesn't. if i go for the 4850, will their be a good amount of increase seeing that ill upgrade other parts??? cuz 4670-4850 seems like ill atleast gain 15-20 frames per second in games (50-70% ????)

Well with a 4850 I fear in many circumstances you will be bottlenecked by the CPU.

oh and its already being bottlenecked, the frames fall way down to the 20's, hopefully after upgrading all parts, itll atleast fall to 30 at MINIMUM!!! (Ran tests on UT3 high)

that's no GTS 250 that's a 9800 GTX+

250 consumes less watttage (atleast the 1 gig does) and can be OC further and is also smaller

the bottom one is a gts 250, and it does not consume less wattage at all lol, nor does it OC better. It's the same exact card, just shortened a bit.

9800GTX+

250 GTS

the specs are exactly the same (except there were no 1GB's made reference)
