[WTB] GTX 260 896mb

Hey all. Just looking for a GTX260 to settle in my spare PCIe 2 slot.

Not too bothered on brand, although XFX has that double lifetime warranty, which I'd like to get.

As for whether it's an Pre-OC'd card, it isn't too much of a requirement, as I'll be OCing it to match my current GTX260 any ways.

Hopefully someone here will be selling a 260 and need the money for an upgrade to w/e. As long as the price steers clear of new prices, barring if it is NRFB, I'm open to offers.

I live in teh UK, just FYI.

won't the second have to be the 1792mb edition or else you're just shafting yourself 896mb of video memory??

Yeah I understand. The 1792mb card was a mistake in the first place. I couldn't be bothered to RMA it after getting the rest of my rig set up. even at 1080p, 1792mb of memory isn't really going to get used. So I'll get another 260, for less than a single GTX285, and after a bit of research, 2 260's are faster than 1 285. It's the cheapest upgrade to do atm, so I'll be safe until the GTX300's decide to come out. If need be, My particular card goes for quite a bit on teh eBay, so I could sell my 1792, and get 2 896's. Not sure on that yet though. I'll wait to get the 896 then decide from there.

My 260 was fine running Crysis @ 1680x1050. but I had to ramp down shadows and a few other bits to get it to run smoothly @1080p, even OC'd. And with 285's still running a premium, a used (even stock) GTX260 will future proof me for alot less dough.

Some people argue " Why go with two weaker GPUs over 1 awesome one?"

My way is, why get a 285 now, when in the next 6 months, A sweet butt Fermi card will come out? Then I sell the 260's/ throw them in another build (got an Phenom 550 rig half done) and pick up a GTX360/380 etc. 2 GTX260's will be more than enough to keep DX10 games at bay. And with the lag of developers, a DX11 card isn't needed immediately.

did you mean to say a 295, two 260's will destroy a 285. (since they come on par with a 295). I don't know why you wouldn't capitalize on the 200 series being overpriced and sell the 260 and get a 5870. It'd be an outright win. (maybe you'l get more since some people might be like OMG!! 1.8GB memory!!)

I did mean a 285.

I know what you're saying, but even if I sell this 260, I might get

says the one who wants SLI

*correction*

I'm not too keen on dual GPU on a PCB idea.

Two separate cards, that's ok. I just don't like the idea of if a 295/4870x2 goes wrong, you have no display. with 2 physical cards, if one goes wrong, at least you can use the good one until the bad one is replaced. Call me fickle, but to each his own.

But we digress.

I'm still after a GTX260 lol

Well, I just bit the bullet and ordered from Scan.co.uk.

Have matched my current card, a Gainward GTX 260 Golden Sample, albeit with 896mb. Sweet A$$ cooler keeps my current one purring at 40

:thumbs-up: awesome tell us how that ends out. can I borrow your unused video memory ;)

Okay bud, laugh it up. :P

I thought, and correct me if I'm wrong (it's 7:25AM) Any game that doesn't support SLI, will use the primary card i.e. the 1792mb and with disabling SLI, will then be able to somewhat utilize the extra video memory, just n the 1 GPU. Hopefully if I'm not oversimplifying, this should somehow give the larger card a little more value/longevity.

Still, 2 GTX 260's folding with a 3.8gig i7 will be a beast.

Of course, if not, I'll just ebay the 1792mb and buy another new 896. At least when I get this new one tomorrow (tuesday), I can safely sell the other one, without fear of then retarding my rig into a v.large and expensive paperweight.

Ah, the joys of building gaming rigs.

I've made a boo-boo.

While biting said proverbial bullet last night, it turns out that today, I won the auction on ebay for a BFG BTX260 OC Maxcore. So now I have 2 GTX 260's coming. Plus the one I already have, makes three GTX260's.

Holy balls, I didn't see this coming.

IVIYTH0S, I request a little advice.

I can still cancel the one from Scan. or even leave it, then RMA it for a full refund. TRI SLI isn't possible on my "weedy" HX850. So that's outta the window.

And maybe even sell all three, and hopefully make enough to just throw in a 5870 (here's hoping by the time I'd have sold them , SOMEWHERE would have a 5870 in stock lol) Ebay seems to fetch
