price difference is negligible to me. I game A LOT.

I know the i5's are out but I'm not too interested in them, and the price jump to the i7 is too much for me. I mostly just game.

The benchmarks here showed the Phenom as being much much more powerful, but want to check with the community first =)

thanks!

In case you are wondering why is 8400 so costly as compared to PII 550.. It's because Intel is crazy, that's all.. No other reason!

If your choice is just between those two, definitely go with the Phenom II 955.

It's a quad (vs dual e8400), it's <$20 more than the dualcore e8400, and there's always the upgrade-ability of the relatively new AM3 platform (775 is at the end of its line)

955 > E8400 in gaming. The E8400 is more comparable to the X2 550 than that X4 955.

In that case, definitely go with the 955. The e8400 is still a fantastic cpu for gaming though (I'm gonna try and get mine up to 4.0ghz on air this weekend).
