damian Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 What do you think you could use right now? Processing power or better graphics?
Fight Game Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 assuming its a gaming rig, option 1. I see the prices of the q9550 still above $200 so theres no way I'd do that. If you're going to upgrade your cpu power at this point, I'd go with option 3.
micul Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 I'm using the PC for gaming in general.AM3 i think it is more future proof than LGA775,and i found a nice combo around 300CAD: AMD Phenom II X4 965 with GIGABYTE GA-MA790X-UD4P.I'm thinking to sell what i have and do the AM3 upgrade. nns Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 955 is proclaimed to be a better overclocker than 965 and also cheaper.. BTW you could also try the i5.. I'd say get a graphics upgrade and see if you still need better performance... If you do you can always do a new rig!
rourkchris Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 955 is proclaimed to be a better overclocker than 965 and also cheaper.. Proclaimed by who? Cheaper yes, better overclocker no. It's hard to say where you should go with your upgrades. What do you want from your system and how long do you plan to keep it? rourkchris Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 Proclaimed by some of the forum members.. Strange I don't recall seeing that posted Certainly not by anyone reliable or with any experience with a 965.

IVIYTH0S Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 (edited) moving from a core 2 to a core 2 is silly. I just would wager whether you want a stronger platform or not. A jump to a phenom II from a core 2 is also unnecessary as your are getting nowhere from that. Either go i5 or go 5870. and for all argumentative purposes any 940, 955, and 965 can clock the same it just comes down to luck (they're all the same darn chip, with different starting multis, which is pointless since they are all unlocked so the difference can be settled with literally flipping a switch ) but don't get a phenom II. Unless you can swing a Q9450 for less than $100 don't bother unless you go i5 Edited October 28, 2009 by IVIYTH0S

This is an assumption that keeps getting sold as truth.
