Jchick87 Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 (edited) How long should I run Prime95 just to test my temps on a stock clock? I've heard around 10 mins the CPU should reach its max temps, but I'm not sure. I know for overclocks you have to run for around 12 hours, but I'm not overclocking it. Also, what kind of test should I run, Blend, Small FFT's? Thank you. Edited October 26, 2009 by Jchick87

Crazy_Nate Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 OCCT is good for checking temperatures...it'll even plot the core temperatures when you're done! The linpack test should really give your CPU a workout With good airflow, it won't take long for your PC to reach steady state (more or less). Mediocre airflow, and you'll see the temperatures start to creep up in the case...
Waco Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 Linpack will get your CPU to max temp within 15 minutes or so with most cooling setups.
Jchick87 Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 Thanks, I'll run the OCCT Linpack test for 15 mins then.
Jchick87 Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 Thanks, I'll run the OCCT Linpack test for 15 mins then. Alright, I ran it for 15 mins, and it never went past 59*C, is that good for a stock clocked i7-920? (I'm not using stock heatsink though). OCFreak Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 Usually anywhere between 10-15mins you will notice that the temps will plateau ... that is your max temps in most cases, unless ambient or room temperature changes dramatically. cc

It's certainly not bad. LinPack will get your CPU hotter than pretty much anything else.
