NuComer Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 hey guys, is it still worth it? cause right now i cant buy the card and the MB, but i was thinking about buying the card first since it can be backward compatible (according to my research) but with a performance degrade, i want to know how bad the drop is tho, does anyone have or had a gpu running this way?. thx a lot :thumbs-up:
JBags Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 (edited) it depends what card. if it's a 5850, 5870, or a gtx295 it MIGHT be bottlenecked by PCI-E 1.0 X16 (PCI-E 2.0 X8). but generally, most cards out won't be bottlenecked by the bandwidth allowed by the pci-e 1.0 specification. Timmy94 Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 You should be right, if a bottleneck occured, it would only be minor.
00stevo Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 Get the gfx card, then upgrade your mobo down the line, simple.Although people are right when they say it wont be a problem.
bp9801 Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 What mobo are you thinking of getting? Certain ones that use a VIA chipset won't work with PCI-E 2.0 cards, but so long as you stick to Intel or AMD, you'll be just fine. But yeah, running a PCI-E 2.0 card in a 1.0 slot won't cause any huge problems, maybe a small decrease but nothing noticeable by any means.
