brandonwh64 Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 OK i have a ECS GeForce 6100PM-M2 (V2.0) motherboard and well its the same board as the (V3.0) so i decided to flash with the newest bios for the V3.0 well come to find out the only thing diffrence between the two boards is that the 2.0 has Award bios and the 3.0 has American Megatrends bios. now the computer will come on and sound like its trying to boot (Read CD/DVD rom, and harddrive spins up) but no video and no beeps . Is there a way to salvage the bios? ive looked on ebay at replacement bios on ebay that suppose to work with the v2.0 AND v3.0 and will take both flashes (Award or AMI). SO should i just order the new bios or is there a way i can fix the old one?
Praz Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 Now that the BIOS is flashed with AMI firmware when it goes to hand off to the CMOS the CMOS has no idea what is being sent to it. Best to buy a preprogramed v2 chip. They aren't that expensive.

Praz Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 The CMOS and the BIOS are not the same thing. You flashed the BIOS chip and now the CMOS chip cannot communicate with the BIOS. Excuse my if I have missed it but where in your original post do you mention that the flash failed to complete. Praz Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 Then you need to either buy a new chip or find someone with a programmer that can reflash it for you

Baulten Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 Let this be a lesson. BIOS flashes can go wrong easily, especially if you don't make sure what you are flashing works with the board. Glad you found a replacement chip, though!
slick2500 Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 You might want to get that tool for removing the bios so you don't damage your motherboard.
davidst Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 Here is something you might try only if you are bold. Losen the bios chip on the good board so you can pull it easy once it's on. turn it on **carefully pull the bios put the bad bios chip in, flash it with the proper 2.0 bios turn it off of course and try it now in the 2.0 board. if it doesn't work well then you can call them and order one they charge about 12-15 dollars
