huskurdu Posted January 8, 2004 Posted January 8, 2004 I have two pc's running wu's and was wondering how long it generally takes to complete a wu? both pc's are on their 2nd day and it looks like it will be 3 days at the rate they are going. H2O Posted January 8, 2004 Posted January 8, 2004 There are several factors that can contribute to your computer folding slowly. If you are also using your computer while it's folding that will slow it down. Of course switching your computer off will also take longer. It is also possible that you are folding a tinker core and that takes several days to complete. There are 2 cores [actually 3, but we won't get into the 3rd core] in folding: Tinker Core: These are the biggest core and they take the longest to complete. Gromacs Core: These are the regular cores which take anywhere between a couple of hours to 2 days to complete depending on the size and the speed of your computer. Hope this info helps. huskurdu Posted January 8, 2004 Posted January 8, 2004 I have some major heat issues with my xp2100 as I have it slightly oc'd (1807 mhz). I had to turn the CPU percentage down (in the folding config) a bit to keep it from overheating. It is running about 60 c on the cpu and the nb is running about 72c!!!! I have a new hs (sk-900a) and fan (92mm) coming for the cpu and new ceramique for both the cpu and north bridge that will help. My work pc is a pentium 4 2.4 and it is going to process it's wu in about 2 days flat. I saw the word 'Tinker' in the work log on both pc's. I also use my work pc consistently when I'm there (not according to my teammates). I'll bet that's the holdup. Why doesn't the computer process well when it's off? That's when it is the coolest and I'm not playing games on it......lmao.!!!! Thanks for the info. This is helpful. I'll have to figure out how to 'sneek' folding onto some of these other pc's around me.......lol
H2O Posted January 8, 2004 Posted January 8, 2004 If u saw tinker in the logs, then you are definitely folding tinker. They are still proteins, but they take quite a while. All I have to say is be patient

Kondour Posted January 9, 2004 Posted January 9, 2004 Hi, Is there any info on sizes of eatch one? cause im folding on my 1.5 with 512mb rambus and the protein im folding is 2500 worth. I folded that before my 2.6 even finished a 400 one ? this normal or what?
H2O Posted January 9, 2004 Posted January 9, 2004 Actually the 2500 one that you folded is probably a gromacs and the 400 one is a tinker, so yes it's normal. That I know of there is no info anywhere of each protein and their size.
Kondour Posted January 9, 2004 Posted January 9, 2004 When im folding a tinker 400 size, it restarts everytime i go back to it. so say i restart my system and i left it at 85/400 it goes back to 0/400 even if i close the program it does that. any ideas? Also with concerning my 1.5 and 2.6 my 1.5 FahCore_64.exe(folding) runs at 100% on the 2.6 with ht FahCore_64.exe runs at 50 and system idle at 50 and it seems alot slower. ?? any ideas

That I know of there is no info anywhere of each protein and their size. This showa the size and point value. It also shows which core each wu is. Ok you have to use the -local -config -forceasm -advmethods ok when you launch the console with the config command in there it going to ask you your name, team # etc. when you get to advanced settings choose to change them, what you have to do is give one folder or directory whatever you want to call it a machine # different from the other, they can not be the same I made the first one machine #1 and the other folder #2 after you have went through this process and have all of you info correct you can then remove the -config and leave the -local -forceasm -advmethods and you can run 2 version at one time, when you look at processes running each folding@home will be using 50% each equaling 100% total check this link out it explains it http://folding.stanford.edu/console-userguide.html
