Sound dampening for case?

Recommended Posts

There seems to be a lot of different sound dampening material out there for PC cases. Is there something you can buy and do it yourself that works just as well or better? It just seems expensive for what it is. Looking for another solution to help quiet down my computers along with quiet fans.

Remove all grates, install high flow guards, and perhaps laminar airflow devices to reduce turbulence one of the main causes of noise. Also the dampening material is good for reducing echo type noise but you really must have something loud in there for it to help. Most case are way to open today for matted dampening techniques to be effective. Rubber vibration reduction for harddrives, fans and other motorized equipment greatly helps. Also make sure the fans in the pc are not directly pointed at you or directly beside you this will help a lot. If you really want quiet 120mm+ magnetic bearing fans and a really free flowing case and large optimized heat sinks help greatly. For instance my case is a haf932 and I have mag fan in it primary the built in 200mms are silent already the case, all said at full load the box box runs 25db at most from about 6 inches, and at three feet she ain't there.
