barch88 Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 If you've read my old thread, I decided to go with an X58 chipset, and this is what I came up with. How does it all look, did I miss or overlook anything? MOBO: ASUS Rampage II Extreme CPU: Intel Core i7-920 RAM: Corsair XMS3 6GB HDD: WD Black 640GB GPU: Sapphire Radeon HD 5850 PSU: Antec TruePower 750W Heatsink: Zalman 10X Extreme Case: CM Storm-Sniper (black) DVD Burner: Samsung 22X SATA Burner I have everything else (Windows, Monitor, Keyboard/Mouse). It was a tough choice in choosing my case - between an Antec 1200 and the Storm Sniper, but I decided to go with the Cooler Master. I also have a older 74GB Raptor harddrive that has been sitting in my box unused, I'll be using in the build too. How does the RAM I picked out compare to the Dominator series? I was going to pick up the Dominator series for a bit more but was worried I would have issues with the large heatsinks when trying to fit my CPU cooler. One last question, is the 750W Power Supply good enough if I wanted to add another 5850 card down the road? Thanks .

nns Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 Nice build!! Dominators have good heatsinks, resulting in better cooling when OCed!! BTW there are some better RAMs at that price!! Sorry I don't have enough patience to post proper links! http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820227477 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820220399 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820609482 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820145250 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820227365 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820220363 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820145258
slick2500 Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 Personally I would get this Corsair psu over the Antec. But thats only because I would prefer a single 12V rail to 4 12V rails.

Everything I read says Single vs Multiple 12v rails doesn't make a difference. Anyways, how is that heatsink I picked out? I'm trying to decide to go with that, or the Dark Knight by Xigmatek. Having a single rail means you don't have to worry about balancing power between them or over stressing a rail. Ph4n Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 Awesome build!... good choice of case i might add, IMO the sniper case is probably one of CMs best cases... have u considered the 5870 over the 5850??

Difference is minimal to me, and if I want to go with an X58 chipset it's out of my budget.
Ph4n Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 haha same thing happend to me however i chose to keep the 5870 and downgraded to an i7 860, coz i still wanted the hyper threading but ddnt really need triple channel memory since im only going to be gaming... maybe u should look into it, reviews show that the i7 860 is actually better than the 920 so yea.. just a thought
iOverclock Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 Yes but the X58 chipset is more future proof. I have a 5850 and it plays all my games at max @ 1920x1080. I get 43 fps with 8xaa and all maxed on Farcry 2. 5870 is for the really high resolutions IMO.
