barch88 Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 I'm going to be building either an i5/i7 on a 1156 socket, or I may go with an i7-920 build, and I'm trying to decide which heatsink to go with. I always was a Zalman type of person, and I'm checking out the Zalman CNPS-10x Extreme, but I've heard a lot of good things about the Xigminta (sp?) Dark Knight cooler, as well as the Coolermaster V8, among others. So which air-cooling solution would suit me best? Please note that I don't want the heatsink to block off any DIMM slots on my mobo, which is why I choose not to pick the MUGEN-2 from Scythe. I plan to OC to around 3-3.5 Ghz, nothing more. Thanks for the input, much appreciated.
ccokeman Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 Look no further For the speeds you are looking to run this will do just great with some added headroom. Plus very low noise, almost silent.

ccokeman Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 Ok let me try again http://www.noctua.at/main.php?show=product...d=31&lng=en
suchuwato Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 I can't vouch for the sink, but I run the fan that comes with that, and it's good Edit: fan(s)
ccokeman Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 THat sink should come with 2 fans to use in a push pull configuration and it is dead silent! I though the computer had shut down on me!
sack_patrol Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 Quite expensive this noctua is. I bought a Sunbeam core contact freezer and 29% oc on the CPU....heat NEVER EVER goes up more than 39C (we're talkin about load, and on lowest fan speed). I think difference between it and the Noctua is only a couple of deg. difference, price tags...thats another thing.
Crazy_Nate Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 I wouldn't start bashing the Noctua just yet. Comparing the temperatures from a Phenom II to an i7 is definitely not apples to apples. Let's put it this way...it may only be a couple degrees on the Phenom II X2, but it certainly won't be that close on an i7 Noctua U12P > T.R.U.E (Frank may have to verify, but, I believe it was tested with a single fan) > Core contact freezer OCC links: http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/su...ctfreezer/4.htm http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/noctua_nhu12p/4.htm
