Sleeving a 4 pin ATX power cable

Recommended Posts

I bought a 12 inch 4 pin power extension cable and want to sleeve it so it matches the rest of the cables in my case. The problem is that I can't figure out how to get the connectors of the ends. Does anyone know how to remove these 4 pin connectors?

Pin removal from the connector requires a tool that pushes the barbs that hold the pin or socket into the housing away from the housing and allows the connector to slide out of the housing.

these pin and socket removal tools are available from anyplace that carries modding supplies, and some automotive parts carry removal tools that will work on some computer connectors, but not all. I've tried using jewelers screwdrivers, paper clips, bobby pins, etc. with varing degrees of success. The regular removal tools do work the best, and have a minimal risk of damaging the connector housing.

I have one of the standard molex pin removal tools but that doesn't work with this connector. To clarify, this is the kind if cable I'm dealing with.

I think I'll just buy a pre-sleeved one and save myself the trouble.
