Fan Controller

Recommended Posts

Now that i have these fans i'd like to be able to tone them down a bit on the fly. Sound is kinda load. Im leaning more towards this.

It has to be black i'd like it to match my case.

I had this one in my older case:

Loved it. Essentially, provided the power inputs etc. are sufficient ... they all do the same thing. I like this one because it is simple, no LEDs or gadgets just straight control. In fact, I miss it, I need to find it ...

The sunbeam might be interesting if you don't mind the bright LEDs.

I just ordered one this past Thursday from directcanada.com for $13.38 CDN... among other goodies

I'm still using Vantec fan controllers (not available anymore) and they worked fine for me but the sunbeam can support a bit more wattage as opposed the Vantecs.

Hope this helps.

I am using a software controller atm, it's nice but it only supports 3 fans, althought they do offer and expanssion board to add another 3 fans. I am unaware if there are more software fan controlers out there? Anyone know of any, the one i have is a hideaway PCB and it connects thru an internal usb header to interface with the software, it's nice but I like options.

software fan controllers can only control the fans that are connected to your board. Mostly thats 3-4 fans. Anything else you need a hardware controller. I have the SunbeamTech controller and it works pretty good. A bit bright if you have it in your room at night but its still good.

I tend to like fan controllers at with higher wattage capacities. If I have lots of fans (which I do), I pair them up by channel - basically one intake and one exhaust, appropriately chosen based on air flow (i.e. the top most fan on the front goes to the blowhole on top). I also have both CPU heatsink fans on the same channel. 8 fans, and 4 channels :)

The scythe looks really clean, but, depending on how many fans you're using, it might not have sufficient power handling capabilities. The sunbeam is highly recommended, and I believe it is 20W / channel.
