CoolMaster Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 (edited) So as i've been making a good bit at my job recently I decided Im gonna spoil myself with a flat screen tv. Nothing GINOURMOUS but.....something decent. like to put in my room so I can watch Por.........or Movies on (j/k guys hehehe) but seriously I watch alot of tv shows so I would enjoy a nice mountable flat screen tv. something maybe like a 32'' or something.......decent enough size for me. But I have 0 clue what brand? Anyone have experience with any of them. I really really like the samsung models and the sony ones are nice too (dont they use the same panel....like sony uses samsung panels or something?) The LG seems nice too. the main thing is i want something that is VERY reliable. I've heard Samsung/Sony/LG are all good brands. Im also scared of "dead pixels". is it that common in LCD tv's ? what about these new LED tv's? how are those? Im guessing....expensive lol Also is there anything I should know before buying one? Like whats the typical life expectancy of them? 5 years (i hope?) or anything I should be aware of? thx Edited October 7, 2009 by CoolMaster

Waco Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 "LED TVs" are just LCDs with LED backlighting, nothing special. They're generally nicer simply because they're newer. I'd suggest a Samsung or Panasonic.

Waco Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 Huh I heard blacks and such that LCDs lack in are improved when using LED backlighting... also brighter more vibrant colors. It depends on the model. Some of them have a big panel of LEDs that can dim and brighten individually...while others just use a bigass array of LEDs on the edge in the place of a CCFL. The former are *very* expensive and the latter are not.

bp9801 Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 It depends on the model. Some of them have a big panel of LEDs that can dim and brighten individually...while others just use a bigass array of LEDs on the edge in the place of a CCFL. The former are *very* expensive and the latter are not. You have that backwards, most of the full-array LED TVs have a cheaper price and the edge-lit ones, like Sony and Samsung, are damn expensive. The only brands currently making full-array LED TVs are Sharp and LG, both of which aren't that expensive at all. They aren't as thin as edge-lit, but have a much better looking picture and still put off less heat and use less energy than regular CCFL LCD TVs. Samsung will be coming out with their full-arrays real soon, if they aren't hitting retailers already in time for the holidays. If you're looking for a good TV set to go with, I'll suggest the Sharp Aquos LC32LE700UN 32" 1080p 120hz full-array LED LCD TV or LG 32LH40 32" 1080p 120hz LCD TV. Both of which cost under 1,000 USD and would be perfect for anything you want to use it for. The LG is not an LED backlit one, but its still one of the better ones to go with in that size. For their LED backlit, you'd have to jump up to 42" which will add more onto the cost. But the Sharp 32" is perfect and damn cheap for being a full-array LED. road-runner Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 Good topic, I have been looking at new ones also. I have a LG 37" I am happy with but want to get a bigger one for my living room. I was looking at this one http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?sk...d=1218084031293
Bizzlenitch Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 Had a nice Samsung 42" 120 Hz Refresh LCD for about 8 months now and no complaints. My brother's also owned a Samsung, they make nice TVs. Never really been a fan of Panasonic, none of their electronics I've owned has worked for very long. Just a couple cents.
road-runner Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 I have the samsung TOC 24" monitor on my main rig and like it also. I think I will go look at the TVs live at bestbuy playing side by side to see which has the better pictures...
