rourkchris Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 Wow that's a nice ps for the price. Is it completely modular though (doesn't look like it in the pictures)? I have no interest in doing SLI. I looked over the pics and it is modular. You save money and have increased options and better quality IMHO. Save another $10 and double your HDD storage http://forums.overclockersclub.com/index.p...howtopic=167757
Coors Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 Really? I thought their low end stuff was great, but their high end decreased in quality. Jonnyguru gave this exact psu, except 600w...but it's the same internals as the 700w, a 9/10. http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=...ry&reid=
rourkchris Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDet...st=Combo.258287 This combo, Antec EarthWatts 750, and a $60 WD Black 1TB HDD for $483. Your original power supply, motherboard, RAM, and HDD was $480. This is far better value for only an additional $3.
Coors Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 I'd get a higher quality PSU. Since you mentioned modular and SLI this is cheaper and higher quality: Antec Modular 750 watt EarthWatts http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16817371026 What makes you say it's higher quality? Looking at the Jonnyguru review I'd say it's above average. I'd take the CM over that Antec. Or at least get the TP model: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...1-022-_-Product http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=...ry&reid=

I've recommended things I have personal experience with not what someone told me is good. Antec has been making quility power supplies for a while and is known for their quality. The one I listed met his needs, was modular, cheaper, and with possible expansion in mind.

Coors Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 Anyways OP, if this is your current psu Zalman ZM600-HP 600W i'd just stick with it. No need to really spend money on a new one.

Yeah, that's the current one I have. It's great, but I used the ps calculator on Newegg, and it came out to like 625w (920, 3 sticks of DDR3, gtx 275). That Asus micro atx board looks nice, but I still have a bad taste in my mouth when it comes to Asus. I built socket 939 (athlon 64 x2) rig a couple of years ago. I got a nice Asus board, and the ethernet port didn't work. I sent it in, and it took them almost 6 months to send it back. Since then, I've stuck with Gigabyte. Coors Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 Most of those calculators over compensate. 600w is plenty for that setup.
MystoGators Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 (edited) Well I guess I need to consider this: would I see a big difference between this build and the computer I have now (in sig)? It's mainly used for games, especially shooters. I'm not satisfied with my case's cooling. It has 4 80 mm fans (2 in front, 1 in back, 1 up top), but I don't think that's good enough, especially for extended gaming. Coors Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Well...actully not really. I just noticed you already have a gtx260 as well. Going from a 260 to a 275 is not worth it. And not many games would give you a big benefit with a i7 920 over a e8400. You could easily hold off on upgrading for a bit longer if you want to save some money.
