Mr_Yuck Posted January 7, 2004 Posted January 7, 2004 (edited) Trig assignment i have but cant find a protractor... Use Metric ruler to and a protractor to find each sum or difference. Then, find the magnitude and amplitude of each resultant. I know this can be done without a protractor. (a)27mm vector at 60 degrees (b)25mm vector at 45 degrees. a+b (just started vectors yesterday...what a nice welcome back from break eh?) Eva_Unit_0 Posted January 7, 2004 Posted January 7, 2004 Adding vectors you do head-to-tail, so the two red lines are the original vectors. The Blue line is the resultant vector. You know the lengths of the two red lines, as well as the angle between them. Thus, you can use law of sines and law of cosines to find the length of the blue side. Then use the same laws to find the angle down at the origin. (since a vector needs both magnitude and direction) Hope this is at least a start. Also, someone please correct me if I'm wrong...I don't remember back to trig all that well.
Mr_Yuck Posted January 7, 2004 Posted January 7, 2004 I thought it had something to do with law of sines by lookin at it....thanks...now to clear some desk space <_<
ClayMeow Posted January 7, 2004 Posted January 7, 2004 (edited) crap yo. okay, let's see if i can remember trig/vectors. It's been probably 6 years since i did trig. Math used to be my best subject, but i took ZERO math classes in college (not counting accounting and stats). do you have graph paper? Adding vectors, you add the height of each together, right? So if you graph them, you should be able to tell....45 degrees is easy to draw....60 degrees is what, right 1, up 3? I don't remember the definitions of magnitude and amplitude....i'm sure it's on the web but i'm lazy Hope that helps somewhat....as you said, a protractor is not needed....i believe you can do it just by graphing it out. EDIT: i see Eva_Unit answered you....yeah, do what he said Edited January 7, 2004 by ClayMeow

Mr_Yuck Posted January 7, 2004 Posted January 7, 2004 (edited) lol so anyone wanna do 17-24 for me now? jk question: where does the 23 come from that is ten lines down. (Ry= 23xsin60+25sin45) did you mean to do that or am I confused? Edited January 7, 2004 by Mr Yuck

cyberpc04 Posted January 8, 2004 Posted January 8, 2004 lol, how wonderful math is. I'm in calculus/trig. and when I get stuck on a problem I look in the book or my notes. How exciting math is huh? lol. Too bad when I go to college i'll be taking like 4-6 more math classes. <_<
Mr_Yuck Posted January 9, 2004 Posted January 9, 2004 lol...I havent decided yet...I guess I'll do Calculus next year...then in my senior year...I dont know...maybe take a break...

cyberpc04 Posted January 10, 2004 Posted January 10, 2004 lol, my junior year I used the back of the book but I had a terrible teacher I didn't get along with so I switched to our other math teacher that gives us all the even problems!! It sucks cuz I have to do more work but this way I acctually learn the math. Its still cool though cuz this teacher makes the class fun.
