WhenKittensATK Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 Sony does a really bad job at hiding secrets, but this time it wasn't there fault. Sega is the one to take the fall on this one. It seems someone was able to pull off a document from Sega's FTP server stating Sony selling a PS2 emulator on PSN. Along with all the PS2 titles and Dreamcast games through PSN. A downfall is that your going to have to re-buy all you PS2 games to play it on a non-backwards comparable PS3 (hardware). Sony has talked about an UMD trade-in program for the PSP Go, which is all digital distribution but I'm guessing its still for discussion. A similar program could be done for this, if Sony does take that route for the PSP Go. Andrewr05 Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 Thumbs the eff way up! I was thinking about getting a PS3 recently and this "may" sway my opinion even more...
WhenKittensATK Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 It hasn't been officially confirmed yet, so don't go buy that PS3 just yet .
IVIYTH0S Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 It hasn't been officially confirmed yet, so don't go buy that PS3 just yet . I just bought my friend's working dreamcast, though if anyone hears more on this , since atleast I'll be able to weigh whether it'd be cheaper to get a dreamcast game FOR the dreamcast, or emulated on the ps3 :thumbs-up:

Of course otherwise its a purchase.

WhenKittensATK Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 I highly doubt it would be hacked. No one yet has been able to hack the PS3. It stands to be the only system that is free of piracy.
Compxpert Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 (edited) Heh I beg to differer on that one... They have ways to downgrade firmwares and even circumvent firmware checks. They ran Hello World on it back in 08'. They even have the ability to backup blu-rays on it.. Really probably the only reason people don't pirate the games is cus anyone that owns them would rather buy the game anyway, and size of ripped blu-ray is an enormous download. Also the scene for it isn't as large as say the PSP... Would seem that they have come close to getting backups to work as they found a way to get PS3 to boot into service mode but they haven't gotten further than that. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homebrew_%28v...9#PlayStation_3 Says at the very bottom... if those files ever do get leaked they can easily make custom firmwares that render the PS3 easily able to play backups/pirated games. WhenKittensATK Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 (edited) Those were from the OtherOS. Which I don't considered piracy. Trust me, there would be a lot of people willing to pirate PS3 games if given the chance. The average blu-ray rip is about 30GB or less. Which isn't a lot by today standards. Not all PS3 games hit the max capacity. A few do like MGS4 and Uncharted 2 that I know of. For starters it's Wikipedia. Secondly there are a lot of fakes out there. Just Youtube PS3 hacks or w/e. If they ever get a bootloader working to boot blu-ray images then I would consider it hacked. Right now they aren't even close. Andrewr05 Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 Well the PS3s laser wont do anything better than a PS2s laser, It can only read whats there. That being said the PS2 discs are hard to copy and use without using third party software on the PS2 due to a specific formatting of the disc, I suppose the PS3 could just read that "area" of the disc and the title info. WhenKittensATK Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 (edited) Sony has officially announced that they will not be offering an UMD trade-in program for the PSP Go due to technical and legal issues. They will however offer 3 free games if you own at least one UMD. So there goes the chances of Sony applying a trade in method for this new PS2 emulator for the PS3. http://tgs.gamespot.com/story/6230410/no-u...sion-for-psp-go Edited September 25, 2009 by Krazyxazn
