what C2D chip do you have??

Assuming you want gaming performance, I would choose upgrading the graphics card, as that will give you the greatest gaming boost over switching from C2D to i7.

However, ATi's new HD5800 series is, i believe, slated to launch tomorrow, so if you wait a while the prices on the 4800 series chips are bound to take a cut, so you might be able to save some money there.

Also, you might want to also look into getting a 4gb RAM kit, that will help also (unless you're still running a 32-bit OS)

Silly goose. Your just feeding it by posting that comment :P.

I would get a new video card. Like fearspartan117 said, it's going to give you a better boost in games than upgrading to i7. As for which video card, I'll let others recommend. I haven't been keeping up with them. Get the video card first, then upgrade your other parts later down the road.

+1 on the video card :)

which core2duo chip is that though and what speed is it running?

overclocked?

because with a new video card and an overclocked cpu (assuming it's not already overclocked), you could see very significant performance gains...

really, it could be like night and day because you're dealing with quite a video card upgrade here.

simply upgrading the cpu isn't going to give the best possible performance in gaming, because of the old video card is most likely going to even hold the new cpu back...

if you're not a gamer however, you should see performance gains in the other direction (with the cpu upgrade) for multitasking and such.

still sporting a 32-bit operating system?

because either way, you should consider picking up another 2GB of ram while at it.

the reason for the 32-bit question is because 32-bit operating systems can only utilize about 3.25GB of ram...

so if still using 32-bit (x86), you should probably just hold off on the ram until ready to upgrade the operating system as well (maybe do it with a cpu upgrade later on).

have fun with whatever you decide!

he has an E8400 at stock... it's on his profile :P

that determined, I say go for the video card, you def wont see as much of a boost going e8400->i7/i5

if you still feel so inclined as to improve CPU performance... overclock that bish!

definitely if you have an e8400, you should get a new video card...

no question dude :)

then overclock that e8400 and with a new high end video card you could have a very nice gaming rig...

would forget all about i7 at this point, so long as this rig is indeed intended to be a gaming rig.
