Amd 4000mhz and beyond

4Ghz OC to XP Pro 32bit failed with the Phenom II X4 955 once again as it did with Vista Ultimate 64bit. The only difference is that in XP Pro 32 bit from 3.7Ghz - 3.9Ghz there was a -0.03 vCore difference in voltage.

At 4Ghz I ran my vCore all the way to 1.65 with 55c max temps. The longer I stayed in Prime95 was with lower voltages while staying below 50c. So adding voltage made things worse instead of seeing result of more stability.

In both OS, the crash occures when temps got pass 50c.

One thing to mention I cannot control my VDDNB on my AM2+ Mobo. The VDDNB is linked to the vCore. If the vCore goes up the VDDNB goes up also. Once at 4Ghz the longest time in prime is with 1.58 voltage which affect my VDDNB voltage to go up to 1.65v. From what is understood this wayyy too high for the NB voltage. I have set the VDDNB to 100mv and 150mv and it does not change anything. The CPU is in total control of this voltage.

On the new Crosshair III Formula AM3 native Mobo there is a VDDNB and NB voltage setting that are seperate.

A) The CPU demands below 50c temps to be stable at 4Ghz

B) My NB is being overvoltaged resulting in extreme heat on the NB that needs to be compensated for

C) Not able to controll the NB voltage directly is affecting the 4Ghz OC

D) All the above

a] thing you need 30-35c to go 4000c stable

b] 1,65 volt!!! holy god i can only go 1,48v=3000mhz max. 1,5 volt =blue screen

c) big problems, better to controll both the cpu, cpu\nb and nb separately to go 4000mhz by asus M4a79t deluxe the prices go down and ddr3 1800-2000 is very cheep and you got the best for games :fullspeed pci express slots

Do you run games on a regular bases at those clocks ? You cant run 4.1Ghz @ 2T memory timing ?

Yes it works now, my homemade WC works at max 4125mhz 25-35c,a try go very fast timing 6-6-6-15 1667mhz next week, no time today, if a go 4200 i have to rebuild WC again.

2T have not try that yet, whats the diffrent 1T-2T ?

Just chiming in a bit late:

My 965 can do 4.1 GHz relatively stable at 1.53V, but I am not willing to stress it with that much voltage and frequency. I think I can get 4.0 GHz stable with 1.46-1.48V.

I have problem with high cpu voltage too. i go only up to 1,53 stable everything above 1.53v cpu go to hot.

You can go 4000mhz stable with cpu\1,48-1.5v NB 2000 1,1v\HT 2000 1.22volt and ddr3 1333\1600 high timing 1.6-1.62v is no problem, no volt is needed so no heet is produced but the speed is medium.

My system is very very fast, the speed come from high HT\NB and high memory frecuency with low latency

3900mhz with nb\ht 3000 ddr3 1600 low timings is faster than 4000mhz 2000nb\ht 1333-1600 high timings

My H2O setup is moded. I have the Koolance CPU-350AC Water Block with the Thermaltake Bigwater. However I have Moded the Thermaltake Bigwater. It is external outside my Thermaltake sword case and i am using 1/2" tubbing. The Rad is double sided with 2 120mm fans, 1 pushes and 1 pulls the air through the Rad.

Sorry, was having problems with the forum uploader. I will be getting the Koolance ERM-2K3U external water cooling system at the end of the year. I had to put that off so I could do a stage 2 HP upgrade on my car.

The Memory stick in the pic are DDR2 Viper Partriot sticks I had just gotten about a week ago. I pulled my Corsair Dominate 8500C5D sticks seeking better performance.

I haven't tweaked my NB at all. Ram does 1600 at 7-7-6-15-20 1T no prob. I'll see what my northbridge can do sometime soon.
