Where do you get Direct X? (More then you think)

Might sound stupid but I appear to be having a problem. I got a new computer and it has Vista 64bit and a good video card. Well I ran windows update and all. I thought I'd download some nvidia demos but when I run them it says I am missing some DX files. So I go to download this DX 10 file from here (See link):

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en

I assume thats right. Well anyways I download it and run it but when it goes to download through the websetup it never finishes. Says its something on MS's end. Been saying that all day. So I am confused.

1. Is that the right link?

2. Can I get DX 10 anywhere else?

3. How do I even know if I have DX?

You're on the right lines... although the "web setup" installer should work, it looks like possibly there is a problem with it downloading the actual setup files.

Download the full installer here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...b1-442d8712d553

When you run it, it prompts you for a temporary folder to extract the setup files. I chose C:\Temp\DXAug2009

Then, run C:\Temp\DXAug2009\DXSetup.exe

After accepting the agreement, the installer will update the DirectX components and you should end up with the latest DirectX Runtime :)
