CoolBlue Posted January 6, 2004 Posted January 6, 2004 I was wondering (i saw this on the forums not too long ago but couldnt find it in a recent search) how far you can push ram. Im talking about video cards more specifically, but i read that depending on the ns, you can only push them that far. i eblieve it was something like, 3.2ns memory can go 320Mhz, maybe further but mostly just 320, i was jsut wondering cuz i was thinkin about buying a new card and jsut wanted to know where i could take it stock. thanks! (btw the card is the 5900se, at 185 bucks its not a bad deal for a 5900gpu, only it uses lower quality ram that runs at 700mhz stock )
AYoKoNA Posted January 6, 2004 Posted January 6, 2004 Well from what i heard the SE cards have crap ram and is really tough to O/C.... I got my Gainward fx5900 Ultra Golden sample to somewhere around (not at home right now) 480/
Guest FxXP Posted January 6, 2004 Posted January 6, 2004 Usually the SE cards have less RAM bandwidth then normal cards. I have seen SE cards that only have 64-bit modules and not 128-bit like regular cards.

Eva_Unit_0 Posted January 6, 2004 Posted January 6, 2004 yeah, that's how you find the maximum rated speed. You can push a little beyond that, cooling permitting. The only TRUE way to find the max speed is to overclock the card and see for yourself. But the calculated speed will not be very far off. CoolBlue Posted January 7, 2004 Posted January 7, 2004 the 5900se comes with 2.8ns memory, so with the given equation i should be able to get 357Mhz right? total clock of 814+ with adequet cooling, not bad for a 185 buck card eh?
