anyway i borrow my friend's samsung sync master 733 NW

 

it can go on to 1792 x 1344 but not showing a good view

 

so i revert to 1680 x 1050

 

anyway it's optimum resolution is 1440 x 900 so when i push more than that it's keep showing a notification

 

it's optimum resolution is 1440 x 900 bout a minute before it's gone

 

my question is,, is it okay to push the resolution ?

 

and what's vga that will perform maximum on that resolution,,

 

if i keep hd 4870 will that be a waste?

I'd say that card is well suited for 1680x1050.

I'm assuming this is a CRT right?? If so, I don't believe it's dangerous to push it higher, it's just whether you have the hardware to handle the resolution you want to run and also the tolerance of the super smallness that comes from running a higher resolution for that monitor's size

how are you pushing higher resolutions than your native?? (1440x900 would look best)

It's up to you 1680x1050 will have things looking better and your card will be able to handle it. I can't make that decision for you now haha

Pushing the lcd? I don't think it could possibly hurt the screen if you are setting it to a resolution in the menu's. I have an HD 4870 and a 22" LCD (1920 x 1080) and it runs everything I throw at it without any troubles, even crysis is playable on 1920x1080.

 

My suggestion to you my friend, is keep your current 4870. Don't sell it, Don't buy a new card, you also have no need to upgrade CPU or Mobo, they are both quite fine, however, looking at your current monitor, your system seems a bit overkill for a small resolution such as that. So I suggest you buy a 23.6" or something like that with a nice 1920x1200 resolution or something like that I find 1920x1080 is fine too

it's so hard to find a good quality hardware here,,

 

the provider not as good as the foreign country like yours,,

 

 

 

uhm,, what i mean pushing here is,, use it over the optimum resolution

 

i use 1600 x 1050 on 17" LCD SyncMaster 733NW wide screen

 

( the optimum resolution of mine is 1440 x 900 but i pushed it 1680 x 1050) got what i mean? =p

 

so if it's okay i'll keep this setting for a while

 

until i can find another LCD

 

23 " lcd or lcd which can be pushed to run in 1920 x 1080 resolution,, if that's not damaged or reduced the life of the lcd,,

 

coz i still don't know,, will that setting damaging or not hehe

Don't worry, running at 1680x1050 will not damage your LCD. So enjoy the extra pixels

 

As for monitor, go for a Sony, Samsung, LG, or BenQ, for brands, I have a BenQ (this is my 2nd) and they have both served me extremely well my old one, (like yours 17" 1280x1024) Is still running strong after ~5 years, Still love it. So stick with 1680x1050 for now, and when you get the chance go to a 22"+ screen, but make sure it supports 1920x(1080/1200) and reap the full benefits of your nice rig.
