Zalman Cnps7000a-cu And Cnps7000a-alcu

Been doing a lot of research on CPU fans as I want to replace my Dragon Orb 4. Ever since I've switched cases (from a Blizzard 360 to a X-Dreamer II) MY CPU is running significantly hotter than it used to. With the Blizzard case (and those three 120mm fans) the CPU, with the Dragon Orb 4 on low, would rarely run above 76

I would think the part copper/part aluminum would perform at least as well as the all copper, if not better due to the conductive qualities of copper combined with the dissipation capabilities of aluminium. (keep in mind I'm just speculating here...I don't know for sure) I think it would be like those swiftec heatsinks...

Well, as silly as it sounds, I would prefer the silver-copper one as I think it looks better than the all-copper cooler.

But what I want to know before shelling out the money is will it make a noticable difference in cooling over my Dragon Orb? If the temps are going to be the same or just a little lower then I'll stick with what I have...

Guest Ballz2TheWallz

sorry but ALL COPPER PREFORMES BEST on paper blends should do well but they lack behind pure copper sinks

As ballz said, all copper tends to preform better.

It is one material, rather than 3.

When you use copper and aluminum, there is also a compound (or glue) inbetween the 2 metals which is just something else that heat has to go through.

The zalman is awesome, the aerocool 7+ is decent and neither produce the deafening airplane-engine sound that Thermaltake coolers do. You could probably just throw a dart at the screen on frozencpu.com's cpu cooler section and you'd have a hard time doing worse than a Thermaltake system imo, unless you are deaf.

Heh yeah, this cooler has really caught my eye. Seems like it's about the same price from both Newegg.com and FrozenCPU.com.

At the same time, I plan to add two 80mm rear exhaust fans which should also help bring the overall system temp down. I have two CoolerMaster blue LED fans (one intake in the side, one exhaust on the top) and two Sunon 80mm fans intake on the front by the HDD. Those probably don't do a whole lot, but I did notice that the X-Dreamer II case has a better intake than some in the front.

So anything will be better than my DragonOrb, huh? That's kinda what I figured, as that DragonOrb 4, while good in its day, has been replaced by better coolers. I take it that I should absolutely, without-a-doubt throw away the thermal paste that comes with the Zalman cooler and go with a tube of ArticSilver? Any particular model of the ArticSilver I should look for?

Sounds good! I did some searching on the forums and found that the general consensus of Artic Silver is that one is pretty much the same as the other - AS5, Ceramique, etc. I hit AS's web site and found directions on how to apply the Ceramique properly.

I'm going to move my Sunon 80mm fans from up front by the HDD - since they don't seem to be doing squat up there - and make them exhaust fans in the back. To supplement those fans, I'm going to buy a Vantec HDD cooler - the thin one that mounts underneath the drive. With that, I'll get the Zalman CNPS7000A and a tube of AS Ceramique. I thought about some more colored fans for the exhaust, but it's bright enough with the 6 LEDs up front and the two blue LED fans in the case!

I like Ceramique when one of the surfaces isn't perfect. It really cleans up a non-flat surface. If I have 2 lapped surfaces, I prefer as3/as5, but you are right. It's about the same.

Good luck with that setup. I think you are right about the fans. You don't need much intake on most systems as long as you are expelling the heat properly. Air will come in from the seams, in-between the drives, etc.
